"When I first sited "Overdraft",she was in a sorry state! Painted in rattle can white, with a couple of go fast stripes
down the side,2 rusted Cragar SS's on the rear,2 steel wheels on the front. The grill, bumpers, door glass ect,all stacked
in a heap on the Camaro fixed back seats in the cab.Cracked dash, emblems missing......you get the picture!
Before purchasing a Mustang I swore to myself that I would be totaly objective when viewing a candidate.
Check the #'s,body lines,rust,missing parts ect.....add it all up,cost the parts,paint & panel,engine-driveline rebuild,
then double it!! Well.....I failed miserably! The car was straight, rust free & it was a Mustang! That was all I saw! Did the deal, loaded her onto the trailer, drove her home, unloaded her into the garage & started ripping her apart.
That's when the chickens came home to roost!!
After the initial excitement of finally owning one of there beasts waned,I then, went into the objective mode!
Checked the Vin -a 6 banger,San Hose car.
Door Tag - 302 Grande.Strange how a coupe window makes for an ugly fit in a Sportsroof !!
Engine - the 351w turned out to be a 289.But it had Mickey Thompson valve covers !!
Panels - It was straight & had very little rust. But a magnet would have had a difficult time trying to do it's thing !!
So the rest is history.....I ripped her apart, became friendly with a mate who imported parts, helped your country's Balance of Payments & 5 years later she's cruising our Australian roads! So if you need to know what to look for when purchasing your project car, give me a call.I'm now experienced in
this field!!"G"
There were times when I wondered what the hell have I done!! But that first drive........those 5 years dissappeared
in the snap of a finger! A big thank you to Bob & the VMF'rs who helped me out in this rebuild. You simply can't get this type of
assistance from a book!!" More on "Overdraft" here http://www.ecn.net.au/~gregos/index.html
