You can also buy one of these cheap starter switches to avoid scary sparks. Most auto parts stores also have them.
I bought one, hooked one lead to BATT and one lead to "S". Press the button and it will crank. If you don't want the engine to fire, disconnect the wire from the coil to the distributor.
