Go out and get a multimeter, like the one below at Harbor Freight tools. Check the battery with the car off. Should be between 12 to 13 volts. Then start the car, and test again. If it now reads more, like 14volts, then your alternator is charging the battery. If its the same, check to make sure the wiring is not at fault. To do that, put the positive lead of the multimeter to the positive side of the alternator. Put the black/ground wire of the multimeter to the block, or a ground somewhere on the car. If the alternator does not read any better than the battery, then its bad. If its reading higher, like 14 volts or so, then it could be the wires or voltage regulator. There are alot of videos on the internet that shows this.

Del, what should I have my meter set at? Like OHM, I know thats not right, but what setting, as I have a selector knob. Its a Harbor Freight Special.
      If it's this meter: http://www.harborfreight.com/7-function-multimeter-98025.html

Set the rotary switch to the 20 position in the DCV area. The meter will now read any DC voltage from a tenth of a volt up to 20. Since we're looking for voltage in the 0 to 12V range, this is the correct setting.

Make sure the black probe is in the bottom socket, and the red is in the middle socket.

Harbor Freight has their cheap volt-ohm meter for $6 or free if you find the right coupon in the mail or a magazine.

They might not be the world's greatest meters, but I have a couple and they'll definitely work for what you need here, and it's really hard to beat free.

If you can't find the ad for a free one you can always use the 20% off coupon too.

Then I'd pull the headlight switch and test it with an Ohmmeter against the wiring diagram. If it appears correct then I'd check the "pinout" of the headlamp switch plug.
I’m sorry still sort of a newbie when it comes to electric. I have a multimeter (7 Function Digital Multimeter)
I can pull the headlight switch but not sure how to do the remaining.

Grab your multimeter, set to the 200 Ohms scale, put the RED test lead on the "B" (battery) terminal on the switch, move the switch through its positions and check the other pins with the BLACK lead as shown below.
