      Hello

Have any of you had any experience with comp cam roller tip rockers?

COMP Cams 1442-16 - COMP Cams Magnum Steel Roller Tip Rocker Arms - Overview - SummitRacing.com

I am having the heads worked on and the rocker studs replaced with screw in and guide plates.

      Setup:
      289 A Code
      Edelbrock 2122 cam
      Stock Heads
      Hi,
Like others, I too, have used them for a number of years. Only recently with a step up to TW heads, did I, bump up to the Comp Ultra Gold units.
They are a fine product, in my book of stuff.
      Happy Trails!

Seriously, don't overlooked going used. I see 1.7s listed for $150 frequently with very low miles or new if you look on the various mustang sites. Or, even 1.6s if you want to be closer to stock. The beauty of most roller systems is that wear is minimal over time.
Be careful though, most of those are pedestal mount and will never work.

You MIGHT be able to use something like this but avoid high lift cams. You still have to tap the stud bosses and cut them down.

I wouldn't put that money into stock, barely modded heads. I'd just get roller tip rockers.

There are some discussions out there claiming these just as good as full roller since they are lighter weight, whether that is true or not, I have no experience.

You MIGHT see 10hp with fresh springs and an increased ratio. I know the stamped rocker have high variations on actual ratio, some ranging close to 1.5!!

Thanks, man. I noticed the different color but didn't know they were shims. The cam is aftermarket (< .500 lift). I looked at the instructions from Comp Cams and it says these cannot be used with guide plates. Which confused me, because the rocker still pivots left to right even when the nut is tightened to zero lash on the pushrod, plus a 1/4-1/2 turn more.

This was my uncle's car. Did he mean to order these instead, which CAN be used with guideplates along with short or long tipped valves? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/cca-1442-16

So sounds like I need to either get rid of these or have a shop install screw in rocker studs, right?

Really? I just priced the stock 5.0 rockers, with fulcrums, for $96. $82 without fulcrums. Best price I could find on roller tips was $185.
Cool, could you provide a link for the 5.0 rockers.

I have the Comp Cams Magnum roller tip rockers on my backup 289. I think I paid $120 a year ago, now $160! https://www.summitracing.com/parts/cca-1442-16/applications/make/ford?prefilter=1

Here's the Summit Racing branded roller tip rockers for $110 https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-141708pl/overview/make/ford No idea on the quality or country of origin.

He has the slotted pushrod guide holes in the head and by the amount of the valve tip sticking above the valve/spring retainer indicates these heads are change level 10. Non-rail rockers are needed in this case. A word of caution here. Unless everything is 100% stock in the valve train (Did you change the cam?), be sure to check the pushrod length.

I'm not sure what you are seeing in terms of prices for the OE style rockers but I just checked NPD and they cost $24 a piece. Holy crap! You may want to consider the Comp Cams roller tip rockers (1442-16) as an option. I put these on my 289 with low profile valve covers and have been happy. No problems so far. A complete set (16) with ball and nut at Summit is $161.

Only modification I've made is Comp Cams High Energy cam which the rep at SEMA said could be used with stock rockers and pushrods. I'm also using their matching valve springs.

Yeah, $24 ea.... take a hike. Not sure what everyone is making these things from but I need to get in on it.

I have many of these rocker arm, if you still need them.
Do still need and would appreciate any you can part with.

Not sure if its the reason but those Rockers look like the Comp Cams Magnum Steel Roller Tip ones and from the times I have seen folks use them they don't have a poly lock like that. They just have a nut. Here is a picture of them:

You know which brand of Rocker you are using? And I also didn't see the guide plates in the video.

I installed COMP Cams 1442-16 Magnum Steel Roller Tip Rocker Arms on my 65 289. The cam is a Camp Cam High Energy 206/206 Hydraulic Flat Cam for Ford 221-302. Lifters are COMP Cams 832-16 High Energy Hydraulic Lifters. Nothing special. I checked the contact points on the valves and made a minor adjustment to a smaller push rod (The block was decked and the heads milled.).

The valve train is definitely loader than with the stock stamped steel rockers. Best description is the old sewing machine sound. I readjusted them today according to the @22GT adjustment procedure. Well they are still noisy. I did some searching and found that noisy roller tip rockers is a common issue. I guess I'll have to live with that. My question is when I did the valve adjustment today, on each valve, I started at 0 lash, did a 3/4 turn on the rocker nuts and added about 1/16 of a turn or so for good measure. Would the extra 1/16 of a turn of preload cause me any issues? Should I go back in and adjust to 3/4 turn preload?
