As has been said, Ford specs out GL-4 for the toploader and it is better suited to the blocking rings than the current GL-5 lube. GL-5 will not make the tranny "blow up", but if it's available, get the GL-4.

I bought mine from amazon when I was ordering some other stuff. IIRC, it was only $22 at the time.

I found this last night. NAPA closed all of there local stores here. We used to have a hub less than a mile from my house too.

That stuff is jacking up in price. I bought some back in July and it was about $26 for the gallon.

Have used several methods over the years.

Fuel line on the bottle spout, with a piece of 3/8 steel tube bent at 135° stuck in the fill hole. Make the fuel line long enough so you can hold the bottle upright out from under the car - very similar to Woodchuck's suggestion, but a one man deal.

StaLube 1 gallon bottle with their pump and the 135° bent tube.

Best method was to fill it on the bench.

Regardless, make sure to use GL-4 spec gear lube and only GL-4, Not "GL4/GL5" multispec, GL-4. NAPA carries the StaLube brand, or you can get it on Amazon.

You want a gear oil that is rated GL-4. The later ones, such as GL-5 have detergents in them that attack the yellow metals in a Toploader, such as the blocker rings. One that I've been using in my Toploader for over 30 years now is:
