    Vintage Mustang Forum
Thanks bartl! I'll give the Mystery Oil idea a shot. Question thou. After I try the ATF trick, I need to change the oil...correct?
  2. 289 popping thru the exhaust

    Vintage Mustang Forum
Update: Ok, I swapped out the cap and rotor. No change. Checked the plug wires. Getting spark at the plug on all wires. Checked out the Pertronix. Regapped and checked ground wire. Still no change. Replaced plugs. A few were carbon fouled. Probably from the semi rich mixture I was...
  3. 289 popping thru the exhaust

    Vintage Mustang Forum
Thanks for the replys. No smog on the car and I was running a fairly rich mixture which seemed to curb but not cure the popping. However I did have the exhaust manifolds off this past winter to detail them. Hmmmmm, maybe I do have a slight exhaust leak? I haven't noticed it but I'll...
  4. 289 popping thru the exhaust

    Vintage Mustang Forum
Hi, all. Have a perplexing problem. I've got a 66 GT convertible that is driving me nuts. Car runs great, has plenty of power but at idle has an annoying pop in the exhaust. It's not very loud and is intermittent but seems to become more pronounced as the car heats up. Does not seem to...
  5. What the heck is this thing?

    Vintage Mustang Forum
Yes that is what they considered dealer speed or cruise control back in the day. I have one in the original box. Has a cable that hooks to the brake pedal so you can disable it when braking. Was going to use it on a 66 GT HT I had years ago and never did. Nice conversation piece but doubt...
  6. all electrical power cutting out

    Vintage Mustang Forum
Well it's been a while since I've posted. Mostly since I was mourning the sale of my 68 GT 350. I've since got over sellers remorse and purchased a 66 GT convertible. Pretty nice car but needs the typical PO things undone or straightened out. Drove it to work today and it decided to pull a...
  7. toploader vs. T-10

    Vintage Mustang Forum
Thanks for all the replys. The car is a Metuchen built car with a build date of April 26th. I can't remember where I heard about the mid year 65 cutoff. Probably Jim's book. Oh well it worked out good for me. I beat the heck out of the owner on the price because it had the the "wrong" tranny.
  8. toploader vs. T-10

    Vintage Mustang Forum
I just purchased a 66 GT vert 4speed. Nice car but it has a T-10 tranny in it. I had always thought that Ford phased out the T-10 mid-year 1965. Mark at Toploader Heaven thought they went thru 1966 but wasn't sure. Anybody out there know the real scoop on this?
  9. Earliest known vin for San Jose GT

    Vintage Mustang Forum
Looking at a 65 GT vert out of the San Jose assembly plant and some things don't add up. The consecutive unit number starts with 205XXX. Is that too low for a reported may 65 build date? The data plate obviously has been replaced and I'm not sure the date on it is the right one. I have not...

  11. Song: Breaking the law by Judas Priest

    Vintage Mustang Forum
Priest rocks! I've seen them in concert many, many times. I was bummed when Halford came out but his business is his business. He's still one of the greatest frontman in metal. As for "Breakin the Law", it's cool but I prefer "Hell bent for Leather" or "Ridin on the Wind" for a crusin tune...
  12. dim brake lights when headlights are on

    Vintage Mustang Forum
tlea, It's just the brake lights that are dim. The turn signals seem to be ok. And it only occurs when the headlights are on. When the headlights are off, the lights seem to be fine. When their on, the brake light bulb filament lights about 1/2 power on the inboard buld and gets...
  13. dim brake lights when headlights are on

    Vintage Mustang Forum
Thanks tlea! I'll give it a shot this week and let you know what happens. Your right about it being a drag to have to disassemble the rear end but it's better than getting rear ended! :: Would the dynamite sticks have anything to do with this? Mine are obviously early repros. I was thinking...
  14. dim brake lights when headlights are on

    Vintage Mustang Forum
It's a new strap. But I will check it again. It's the headlight being on that really causes me concern. I'm afraid to take it out at night due to this problem.
  15. dim brake lights when headlights are on

    Vintage Mustang Forum
Hope someone can help on this one. The brake lights on my Shelby have acting strange lately. The brake lights seem to be operating just fine untill I turn on the headlights. Then the brake light filaments of the rear bulbs gets dim on the inboard light and gets progressively dimmer as is goes...
  16. Rare find?

    Vintage Mustang Forum
My 68 GT350 does not have the BB shock towers and most I've seen do not. I looked at a 68 GT 350 in London, Ont. once and it had one BB shock tower and one normal one. Talking with my friend Bill Collins, who has been dealing in Shelbys since 1979, he has seen all kinds of variances with the...
  17. How do you get seat belt buckles apart?

    Vintage Mustang Forum
That's my question more or less. 67 deluxe or 68 Shelby (They're the same). Need to replace the emblems and want to get the buckle apart to do it. I've seen them apart before but never could figure it out myself. Don't want to destroy the buckle to do it either. Can the mighty Forum help?
  18. tri-power accelerator rod?

    Vintage Mustang Forum
Thanks for the pics. Where did you get those? They will be extremely helpful. :)
  19. tri-power accelerator rod?

    Vintage Mustang Forum
Well I just got around to installing my tri power unit I bought from Carl's Ford Parts last year. Really a nice unit but I'm having trouble with the accelerator rod. The stock unit is too short and when connected, lifts the accelerator pedal way off the floor. I have not seen a rod for this...
  20. Ever Find anything Goofy hidden in your car????

    Vintage Mustang Forum
When ripping apart my GT 350 for restoration, I found an unopened can of Coors beer with the old style pull off tab behind the right rear interior quarter trim panel. You fastback owners know that these are pop riveted on, so it must have been put in there during assembly.(Gotta love those UAW...
