  1. cleaning/dyeing seat belts

    Vintage Mustang Forum
I had great success with soaking and washing with mild soap and then dying with Rit dye that is made for polyester. They came out great but you need to protect the white tag if they are still attached to your belts as they will also take on the dye (duh!)
  2. Carpet adhesive recommendation?

That marine stuff must be strong, I think I’ll go with that. Thanks
  3. Carpet adhesive recommendation?

    Vintage Mustang Forum
I’m replacing my fold down seat carpet. I’ve done this job a couple times in the past without incident. This time after a day of installation and everything looking good, I now have “ bubbling “ or areas where the carpet isn’t flat on each of the 3 sections. I used 3M clear general spray...

  5. Did I get a bad new M/C?

    Vintage Mustang Forum
Consider getting a Motive Products power bleeder. I had a similar issue after converting my fronts to disc which included a new M/C. I played around with it a lot and then finally broke down and bought the power bleeder. You can get them on Amazon for ~ $80. Money well spent.

Final post on the topic (I hope!). Installed the battery.....it wasn't charged enough to turn the engine over.. easy fix with 20 mins on the charger. My amp meter worked for the first time in years! I'm pretty sure that was related to the fixing the regulator problem that caused this mess in...
  7. Autolite 24F repro

    Vintage Mustang Forum
The battery arrived today. It looks identical to my previous repro which is very good. It was hard for me to not put the Exide back in while I was waiting for the sealed battery but I held out so as not to risk another acid bath of my engine compartment! Can't wait to install it and go for a...

Bad news. No battery and they are no longer responding to my emails. I ordered the battery 7/15. I work in supply chain management for a living. I can handle a little bad news on things not going according to plan, however silence is frustrating and disrespectful.......

My new, sealed, Autolite repro is due to ship tomorrow after a long wait. They were waiting for some new 24F cases to come in. I did a LOT of clean up and painting from the spill(s) and am looking forwarded to getting the car back on the road. I'll update when I receive, inspect and install...
  12. Please look at this 4 speed shifter

    Vintage Mustang Forum
I find that every 5 years or so I need to clean and relube the shifter. I can tell when it needs it when it starts to get stiff and harder to shift. I've been using a white automotive grease that drys up over time. I'm sure there is some synthetic product that would last longer. On a related...
  13. Latest thinking on replacement for Krylon 1613

    Vintage Mustang Forum
Thanks. I'm going to use the acetone suggestion before priming. I've washed it down with baking soda and water and wire brushed any area that looks suspect. I'll let the primer set for a few days to confirm that there isn't any acid leeching before I apply the black paint. Thanks for the...

And.....I took apart my voltage regulator just to make sure that wasn't the problem and found that one of the small coil wires that is supposed to be staked to the base inside the cover had come loose and was flopping around. I'm guessing now that the battery was overcharging causing the leak...
  15. Autolite 24F repro

    Vintage Mustang Forum
Good News I think! While looking for a sealed 24F on line, I came across a company called "Battery Central Mall" advertising sealed Autolite logo batteries. Maybe they purchased the assets of the old antique auto battery company? I placed an order. $339 free shipping. Sure hope this time...
  16. Latest thinking on replacement for Krylon 1613

6 cans on the way! Any recommendations on whether to use a primer or something else that will neutralize any remaining acid residue? I'm not repainting the entire engine bay, just the affected area.

  18. Latest thinking on replacement for Krylon 1613

    Vintage Mustang Forum
I find myself in some needed touch up in my engine compartment that was originally painted with Krylon 1613 lacquer. There are a few old threads on how Krylon discontinued the paint, made it available only through industrial sales, and then ultimately discontinued it completely. I'm just...
  19. Autolite 24F repro

Update: I do not recommend the exide battery with the autolite topper solution. Soon after I made the swap, I noticed battery acid exidence under the car. I was afraid to open the hood and rightly so. Acid had leaked from the vents on the battery and was slung by the alternator fan all...

Received the Scott Drake battery cover from Summit today, seems expensive for what you get but hey, cheaper than a logo battery.....especially when the supplier goes under and you can't purchase one. Ordered another $50 of stuff to get free shipping so I'm now the proud owner of a pretty...
