  1. WTB: Dallas/Ft.Worth - 1966 3-speed Transmission for 6 cylinder

    Classic Mustang Wanted Ads
I have a three speed and 6 cyl bell housing in PHX. Not a bad drive. They’ve been sitting long enough (in a shed) I’d probably trade for beer. Let me know if you want details.
  2. Rear main seal replacement

    Vintage Mustang Forum
I just did one in a fairlane and it wasn’t bad. My biggest issue is it still had the old style rope seal. I tried pulling the seal out of the upper part with only the rear cap off and it just ripped little pieces off. Even when I dropped the crank a little I found it easier to push and pull the...
  3. Lower control arms( Pacific thunder)

    Mod and Custom Forum
I’m not on the road yet, so can’t tell you how they run. But I installed a pair last year. They seem well made and he sent me kind of an upgrade. IIRC he was experimenting with powder coating and different ball joints so I got one of his new units. I only know that because I had a brain fade...
  4. Aluminum Intake

    Mod and Custom Forum
Look for a local head shop that specializes in imports. It may not be a universal thing, but several shops around here specialize in salvaging expensive aluminum heads (mostly imports). So welding and machining your manifold should be a piece of cake for them.
  5. Pics of '66 radiator mounting?

    Vintage Mustang Forum
Looks like the top of your radiator may be pushed back a little? Also, I had bad engine mounts and it had my fan too low. You may have a problem with the “fan placement” related to the rad if you know what I mean.
  6. Reliable Used Parts Source?

    Vintage Mustang Forum
You can try The Mustang Shop here in AZ. They don’t have a large inventory but do sell a lot of used stuff. Mustang Shop - Home
  7. needs a little help with dash lights...

    Vintage Mustang Forum
The 68 wiring diagrams have this circuit a little chopped up. But basically power comes out the blue /red wire from the dimmer circuit on your headlight switch, through the 2.5 amp fuse, then to a distribution block and to all the lights. Start by checking power at the fuse (enough for your...

I believe I have them in AZ. They’re loose parts that came with the car so you’ll have to let me know what to look for. They need reconditioned.
  10. Convertible top rebuild

    Vintage Mustang Forum
So how big of a PITA was that? I’ll eventually need to do mine and it’s a little intimidating. How far did you dissiassemble it?
  11. Clutch Pedal Getting Stuck

    Vintage Mustang Forum
On second thought, looks more like a hydraulic clutch, so the z-bar wouldn’t apply. But the rest would. Hopefully all that hardware is not trying to compensate for another problem.
  12. Clutch Pedal Getting Stuck

    Vintage Mustang Forum
Looks like you have a Heim joint retrofit, which is a pretty common mod. The bolt holding it is a hot mess. If you simplify that with the right size bolt you may be good. Just disconnect the clutch rod at the other end, install a better / shorter bolt and make sure it clears during pedal...
  13. Toploader help

    Vintage Mustang Forum
The big block input shafts have the “shorter” pilot area, but that’s kind off misleading. You cannot run them in a small block. Ask me how I know. IIRC it’s because the pilot area is not machined far enough back so you wind up thrusting against your bushing and therefore your trans and crank. I...
  14. Anyone have any success refinishing guns?

    General Discussion (Non-Vintage Mustang)
Not quite original finish, but if you want something different you can always “paint” it and give it a tacti-cool look. Cerrakote and AlamaHyde are two high wear finishes that you could do relatively cheap if you have an interest and some time. I just did a 10/22 in tan AlamaHyde and was very...
  15. I just Retired & going to New Orleans to celebrate

    General Discussion (Non-Vintage Mustang)
Congratulations Peter! Glad to see someone getting out of the rat race. Ironically, I’m in Phoenix (Chandler) and we just got back from NO and the gulf coast yesterday. For swamp tours we used a groupon for Cajun Encounters in Slidell...
  16. Tinted windows?

    Mod and Custom Forum
If you’re just looking to keep the car cooler, there’s some clear thermal tint on the market that works like magic. My neighbor had it installed on the west facing windows of his house and you can hold your hand in the summer sunlight and not feel any heat. Pretty impressive. I’ve even heard...
  17. Hurst Competition Plus Installation Kit

    Vintage Mustang Forum
I just rebuilt my setup. 1966 289 HEH-CL toploader (modified with small block input shaft) Hurst Shifter 3913180 Hurst Install 3737637 I have to admit that the car came to me like this and has only run a few miles as I’ve been working on it. Also, the linkage at the transmissions has very...
  18. Please help, problem with starter

    Vintage Mustang Forum
I recently pulled my flywheel and found the first 1/3 of the teeth chewed up. Rest looked like new. The trans had been swapped from auto to 4 speed so I had no idea about what parts I had. I found this doc that explains the flywheel and starter difference pretty well...
