On Saturday (8/31) The new 2005 Mustang GT drove onto the show field of the 18th annual Mustang Stampede & all Ford Show. The car was escorted by a slow moving City of Vancouver Washington police car with lights flashing. Without any announcement from the Registration booth, a spontaneous cheer and applause arose from the show participants as the car slowly circled the display area. From my peripheral vision I noticed a wave of movement as people converged toward the car. The car was driven by a Ford marketing employee whose passenger was Rolla Crick, a semi-retired automotive journalist who coverd the debut of the Mustang at the New York Worlds Fair on April 17, 1964. Mr. Crick had many interesting stories to tell. I especially liked this one: Ford provided Mustangs to all of the jourmalists while they were covering the event. Ford offered to let the writers keep the cars and drive them home for $1000. Mr. Crick declined the offer, and instead flew home to Portland, OR.
The new 05 Mustang GT was a big hit. Ford allowed people to sit in the car, probe the trunk and under hood areas, and hear the "shaker" 1000 sound system. One of the unofficial engineering specs for the sound system: Must be able to dislodge a full beer can from off the trunk lid. All in all, very impressive. I think if they had been set up for it, they could have taken a number of orders on the spot. You have to see this car close up.

On Tuesday, July 13th, Ford brought the 05 GT, an 05 Ford 500 and the 05 Free Style to one of my properties. I actually got to drive the 05 GT around the parking lot on 3 different occassions. Great car.

I spoke the director of Marketing for the Mustang and the Ford GT who told me the car I got to drive was actually a proto-type car and not a production vehicle. The production cars will begin production late August or early September, with cars available in my market (Charlotte, NC) early October.

100% reengineered. There is nothing that is shared between the Fox Bodied and the new 05 Mustang. The 05 has much more room inside the cabin and in the trunk area. I told my wife that I plan to purchase one in 2006. I have a 66 and will have an 06 (hopefully a 2006 Shelby) :).
