I have a 65 mustang fastback and looking to do the boss 338 in front.

Front I want to run a 225 40 18 but should i do the
18x8 with 4.517 or 4.989 backspacing?

Rear if possible 265 35 18 or 275 35 18 and they only offer the 5.031 backspacing.

Any help would be appreicated guys and if i do the 18x8 all around can I fit a 255 40 18 in rear on the 18x8?

I have had a 255/40/18 on the rear of my fastback. It was tight, just .25" from the leaf, some percussive engineering to the inner wheel well, and because the car was slightly lowered, a little trimming to the rear quarter lip.

I also had a 225/45/17 on the front with 4.72" BS (5.72" + 1" spacer) 17x8 rim

in rear 255 40 18 on a 9.5 wheel or 8 inch wheel?
what backspacing did you have?

In front if you had a 5.72 with 225 45 17 then I guess the 18x8 with 4.989 bs and 225 40 18 will need some fenderwell smoothing to make fit.

What wheels do you have on your car now? size/offset/wheel tires?

Norcal, try googling "dodgestang mustang wheel chart". Should come up with a site that hosts a couple pdfs with some useful charts. Although, I think you may be to such a large wheel extreme that it may not cover what you need. Best of luck.
