My original gas cap isn't perfect, so I wanted to freshen it up. The easy part is painting the "FORD MUSTANG" letters, but can I disassemble the cap in order to remove the emblem in the middle? The lens is a slightly scratched and the red bar is completely faded (although the blue and white bars look brand new). I am trying to avoid paying $50 for a new cap. I don't need perfect chrome because the rest of the chrome on the car is not perfect.

Thanks,

Justin

well DUDE , it was put together so it has to come apart. my 65 cap was trashed and i thode it away but i would look for some flat rivits or in the very center of the inside of the cap where the twist lock is. gots to come apart. i will be going by a mustang shop next week and if they got a 65 cap i will take a look at it. i will eventually be getting a new one. i keep thinking it has something to do with the center of the inside of the twist lock.

I don't think they come apart easily. They were meant to be replaced as a unit rather than repaired.
