I am in the middle of restoring my 65 fastback. My question is how hard is it to remove the steering box while the engine is still installed.

No biggee at all.. However the steering column shaft doesn't detach on the 65/66s so I always remove the front seat so I don't poke a hole in it when fiddling with the box from under the car.

I also remove the front seat too to prevent ventilating the lower cushion. With the stock exhaust manifold, I was able to pull the steering box from above. For some reason, I had a harder time cramming it back in.
