I took this engine apart 40 years ago and now starting assembly after all those years. I have fitted new pistons and rings to the freshly bored cylinders. Since none of the rods were numbered what is the proper orientation to reinstall the rods. Usually rods are installed with the numbers toward the outside. These rods only have bearing tab notches and an oil squirter hole to make them unsymmetrical. Should the oil squirter hole be oriented towards the camshaft? Are the bearing tab notches an indication for orientation?

You mean the bearing notches towards the cam?

On my 1965 289 the rods and caps are numbered on the outside; the bearing tab notches are toward the inside (center) for both the rod and cap; and the oil squirter holes are toward the outside for both the rod and cap.
