i ma thinking of buying a mustang from here in the area (NC) an di have found a 66 with a vinil top and a bench seat in the front!?!!?!?! the car is in great shape and teh inside has been redone but i have never heard of such an animal.....HELP!!!!
As the other posters have said, both features were options. I have a bench seat in mine and more times than not, people will tell me that I have the wrong seats in the car simply because they are "rare". (I don't know if that is a good thing or not) (If it's in good shape, and you like it, BUY it). Mark.
Bench seats were options. Someone posted a few VIN decoders here, you can use that (or the vin decoder from the main page) to find out if the car originally had them. I have a bench seat, but I duiscovered it is not original. I think it's comfortable though and a great excuse not to blow 400 buck on a console
Besides... it's more comfy then the back seat *cough cough*

my 66 convertable came with the bench seat option. Vin code 76C (convertable/bench seat), interior trim 36 (black bench seat). I reckon the bench seat is the rarest of the seat options (definitely is with the 66 convertables) possibly coz they don't look as cool as the bucket seats especially with the console. Personally I like the bench seat with it's neat little fold down arm rest. Perfect for a lazy summer cruise.
Also I think you may find a lot of original bench seaters have been subsequently converted to buckets.
