I have a 1968 California special.Mother and father bought it in 1968 it has headrest single post. I’m curious if the mustang special was given single post headrest in late 1968

That is standard for all 1968s, they went to double posts in 1969.

AFAIK, the headrests are a separate option from the GT/CS package (i.e. not every GT/CS has headrests).

Yes, the 68 headrest is a rare option, and had twin posts. Installing 69 seats in a 68 gets you the single-post headrest, which was standard on all non-mach1 69 seats. In all other respects, the 69 seats were identical to 68.

Anything is possible if its very late and they were short on parts. But more than likely the seats were swapped out.
