Greetings: Could someone tell me where to look for the block ID numbers on a 1968 Mustang S Code? I'd like to see if the numbers match. Also, could someone tell me where to look for the numbers on the body panels. One more question.... Did the S code cars have the welded plate at the shock tower base like the 428 cars? Thanks in advance.

On the engine there will be a set of casting mumbers on the right hand forward side of the block. The date code will be on the pad right next to the oil filter adapater. The car's partial VIN shouldbe stamped on a pad on the rear of the block just below the driver's side head. Some cars had the shock tower plates and some did not.

I have a couple pairs of 390 heads from that time period with the partial VIN's stamped on them and not on the block.

Generally VINS were not stamped until 1968 due to the Federal Mandate to do so.
