Would one or more of you Mustang experts solve an argument for me? A friend says that in 1969, Ford Motor Company made a limited amount of Mustangs with a 390 c.i. engine. I don't think so but being a Mopar guy in the 60's I could be wrong.........Thanks

They sure did. They are reasonably scarce because you could also get the 428 in the Mustang which is what more customers went for.

Hi Larry,
I have one of those 390's that came stock in 1969. The engine code was a "S" which was also in 67 and 68 390 4bbl cars. I have one many beers over the years from that very same question.
Paul you are very wise and faster to the reply than I.

hi Larry,
During that 65-69 period I was usually found in diapers..since I was born as the Mustang boom hit and I've been a faithful mustang owner since.

In 69 it's a 390 IP for improved performance which I believe meant a bit more fuel efficient with respect to emissions. See this web site:

I asked a similar question on the fomoco forum:

Enjoy,

Not only that but I understand they used some X-code 390's (2V) in 1968 and called them 390GT's and IIRC they were also used in California Specials.

I have one too. I believe 69 was the last yr the 390 was put in the Mustang. Mine has the shaker hood also w/ the 390 script on it.
