I am currently in the process of restoring a 1970 Mach 1 and unfortunately the original windshield was replaced in the early 70s (car was parked in 1978). According to the Marti report my car had "tinted windows all". My question is what is the correct Carlite replacement windshield for this car? Is the windshield tinted also, or does it just have the dark band across the top, or a combination of the two?

Thanks in advance,

Gene

If the Marti Report says: "tinted windows all" .....

then, Yes, The Front Windshield was also all tinted as well...and it may or may not have come with a Tinted Band as well...but chances are that it did. If a car got a "tinted windows all" option, The Front Windshield was also ALL TINTED also. It would have had a "combination of the two", or just ALL TINTED GLASS without the Band at the top. Believe that it could have come ALL TINTED either way with or without the Band at the top on the Original 1970 Carlite Glass. "Clear Glass" with a Tinted Band at the top IS NOT what your car would have come with.

Your car most likely came with A/C as well if it had the "tinted windows all" option. Did it have A/C on the Marti Report?!??

)

Thanks for the response, sounds like I have a couple of options when ordering a new windshield.

I misquoted Marti, it actually says "Tinted Glass-Complete". Can't rely on memory anymore.

No, the car is a non AC car. It is a 428 CJ with 4 speed though :)

Thanks,

My 1970 Mach 1 came with tinted windows. It did not come with A/C. FYI, the tint is a very light shade of green; nothing like modern tinting.

After much consternation, I ordered a replacement windshield from NPD. Shipping was very expensive, but I needed a windshield right after my area got hit with a MAJOR hail storm. None of the glass shops would even talk to me. They were too busy doing insurance work.

Yes, Klutch is right.... It was basically just a Light Greenish Tint to the glass... Absolutely nothing like Modern Tint of today... which is way darker. If you are getting "Exact" Reproduction Glass with Date Codes.... ECS is the only place to go.... It all depends on how "Correct" you want to go and what you are willing to settle for in the end.

"Tinted" applies to the entire piece of glass.
"Shaded" applies to the band at the top of a windshield.

A "Tinted and Shaded" windshield will have both full TINTING and a sun-SHADED band.

looks good to me. has the tint with the upper band
green tone matches all the other original glass in the car
