The dash VIN should match the VIN on the title or registration..It should have an *05* in it, also a VIN is located under the fenders..near the top..might also be one located behind the starter on the block..a master cylinder should be easy to find..I think most any Mustang supplier will have one

well 1st off...about the interior....u can choose whatever the hell ya want really lol, ford was gracious on that...theyre motto basically...make every pony a distinct individual lol... as far as the mach 1 logo..yea u can take that out and put it in....for the body...its gotta look like this to be a mach 1

im not sure if they made sports roofs and then mach 1s that used the sports roof body like they did for 69/71, but to be sure if its truely a mach 1, little details will tell u...im sure the 71-73 people will tell u (i dont pay attention because i dont like thos years lol) but to be truely sure, u could always get a nice marti report :)...u should post some pics of ur car..as far as the vin #s go....buck tag if u have it if it came from metuchen...on the driver fender, door, and i think the frame rail..and engine block maybe too.

well it had a new paint job... the stripes are wrong.. it has a 71 coupe grill ..he said the other one broke... whoever painted the car was moron... he ruined the chrome..painted over vin #s... drips all over lol.... all the othr cars we ever owned had the vin number on the body of the car up by the dash board.. NOT ON THE DASH BOARD.... why would ford do that? i mean anyone can get a dash board out of another mustang... http://members.aol.com/luvtransamws6/images/4mach1.jpg since he had it repainted he said he just took the logo off a parts car http://members.aol.com/luvtransamws6/images/2mach1.jpg

the government mandated the vin number be in the winshield on all cars after 1968. I don't know if your cars a mach or not, but they did make regular sports roof cars in 1971, so it is possible that it was converted to a mach lookalike. if someome did change the vin on the car, thats bad... very illeagle. good luck figuring out what it is.

so what you are sayig is that the vin # should be under the dash board as well? because if u look at most cars.. its on the body of the car where the dash is *little cut out in the dash so u can see it*... not right on the dash board lik mine is... i will take pics later and show u what i am talkin about

To find out forsure on the vin pull back the fender and see what the vin is under it. That is the only way forsure to see what the hull's vin is/was.

I would try to remove the paint over the door tag using either heat or chemicals. If the vin matches and the body code is 63R, you have a Mach1, otherwise, you have quite a collection of parts. If you have a manual disk Mach1 from the factory, that would be a pretty rare car. It might be worth putting back together correctly. If the guy did such a poor job of painting it, removing it should be easy. Good Luck.

Oh, by the way. The vin on the dash alone cannot tell you if it is a Mach1, only that it is a fastback.

I think the first thing I would do is remove the top of the left front fender and verify the vin is correct to the title. This is the official vin of the vehicle, the dash and door vin#s are not legal numbers for licensing. Then you can call Ford for a 999 report or get a Marti report. If you have doubts about the vin number you need to verify before you start spending any additional money on the car. BTW. a power brake booster isn't that hard to come by and would be a nice addition to the car... :)

Ford 999 history report number is 1-800-392-3673 and the last one I got from Ford I actually received in 3 weeks not 6 months like the past, and it is FREE!

Well, as you've already pointed out, there are a *few* odd things regarding the car. Because of these oddities, my suggestion of looking for a buck tag may be a washout. I have a Dearborn '71, and my car still has the original buck tag. My tag is located on the upper radiator support behind the passenger headlight. This is a source of information, assuming it, too, is original to the car. Otherwise, the fender removal may be your only true option. The VIN on a '70 - '73 will tell you whether you have a Mach vs. a standard Sportsroof. A Mach will be a 05 while a Sportsroof will be a 02 (vert is 03, or do I have those switched?). The standard grill, I believe, went on the Sportsroof models, although as mentioned earlier, you could option just about anything. Manual disk brakes? Something's been added/removed. I don't think that was a factory option. Finally, take a look at the interior. I'll need some help from the specialists here. Could you get a Mach without the Deluxe door skins? What about the center dash gauge set?
Good Luck!

well i will look and see if i can find a fender vin #..... the one on the dash does show its a mach 1 2bbl with a 351C .... other odd things is... the radiator isnt the right one.. its too big... i have 5 center gauges not 3 ..... i think the interior was replaced because there is one green seat the rest is blue... and teh dash board isnt lined up right so its probably from a diff mach 1 car... i am only 17... and i really dont care if its a mach 1 car or not.. its just for insurance reasons.. i am sure a mach 1 is more then aregular mustang sportsroof.. plus parts might be cheaper... it was $4,800 from a guy in KY... it has no rust.. just some bondo and well the guy who painted it was a moron.. i will take care of that later tho.. its not top priority... it would b GREAT if it was real.... but not the end of the world i guess.. oh and the car has no AC.... he said that makes it " rare mach 1" and that it has 5 gauges it is also "rare" ..this guy was a preacher... u dont think they would lie to you but i guess u cant trust anyone to telll you the truth.... thanks for alll your help.... if you can help me more IM me on aol... Luvtransamws6 is my SN... thanks again
