September 11, 2001 was the date of one of the greatest tragedies ever to occur on American Soil. For the seventh straight year, South Florida Mustang owners will be reuniting to pay tribute for a cause. On Saturday September 10th, 2011, Stangs of South Florida (SSF), a local internet forum and club made up mostly of Ford Mustang enthusiasts will be hosting a huge caravan of American “muscle cars” that will be escorted by local Fire Departments and local law enforcement. Benton Launerts, one of the organizers of the Patriot Day event and part owner of the internet forum says: “This event was started in honor of the victims of the 9/11 tragedy and was made to not only honor their existence, but raise money for their families. Since the original event was spawned seven years ago, 9/11 has since been proclaimed by the US Government as Patriot Day and is now a day to honor those who have died serving our country as well as the victims of 9/11. “You should see how 200 muscle cars look in a caravan all with American Flags blazing from their antennas; it is a sight to be seen!” The event is open to all types of Hot rods, Classics, Street Rods, Muscle cars. From GM, Chrysler, and Ford! Cruise from Calder to Casino to Homestead Speedway where you can take high speed laps with a pace car. Ultimate destination is Bayfront Park and Marina for a judged car show and fundraiser for Live to Tell Foundation benefiting PTSD prevention for our nation's veterans. There are also departing points in Broward and WPB.

There were only 3 classics, and one of them took off before I took photos. The black Shelby clone took 1st/Best of Class for 1965-1978 Mustangs, and I took 1st/Best of Class for the SVT/Shelby class. I did have competition from the newer Shelby's.
