I,m looking at a 65 6 cyl with a three speed stick . can someone tell me if it is supposed to be synchronized or if it is normal to have to stop before shifting back to 1st

I believe the ol' 2.77 trans were non-synchromesh and made out of paper. I'm not 100% sure on that since I can't find my '65 Mustang Ford shop manual but I'm certain the transmission is made out of paper. If you're even more unlucky, you may find the rare British Dagenjam 4 spd vapor transmission.

'65 and I believe '66 3 speeds were non synchro... I know the '67's were full synchro.

'65s with 3-spd and 6-cylinders were un-synchro'd and flimsy. V-8s had a top-loader full-synchro 3-spd capable of handling a bunch of power, like the 4-spd toploaders.
