Hallo, I have 64,5 289 block with 5 bolt bellhousing, i want to buy 3-speed transsmision. I found one it's RAN-S 3.03 from 6cyl 6 mustang. the transmision have two bolt patterns, smaller and bigger. My bell have small bolt patern. Will it fit? Was the small bolt pattern on V8 the same as one on 6cyl transmission? Or does someone have mesurments for v8 small bolt pattern becose my bell didn't arive yet?

I'm not familiar with all the ID's. But if it has the top cover that is pinched in by the cover bolts, it'll work just fine. It would be a Toploader 3 speed that is very strong. It has a lower first gear to help the smaller 6cylinder take off from a stop. With the V8, it should provide spirited take offs from stop signs or traffic lights. Hopefully 22GT will chime in, he's a wealth of knowledge and will know exactly.

You do not want a 3 speed from an early 6 cylinder . .NO NO NO. If it is from a '67 up . it will work. But . . . .buy a Toploader 4 speed. You will be so much happier in the long run.

The 3-speed V8 toploaders are a great budget M/T if you can't afford going all in on a 4-speed toploader at this point. They're also really strong transmissions.

The 3-speed's for 6-cylinder with 4 bolt hole covers are called Peanut transmissions for a reason  and will break like one.

Like i wrote it is 3.03 with 9 bolts on top from 67 6cyl. Im building a ac cobra replica with 289 engine. Im from Poland in Europe so i have limited choice. 4 speed is expensive like t5 swap. How much for yours with shipping?:) any one got some more info about narow bolt pattern on 6cyl and v8?

Wow, no 3 speed in a Cobra!! NO NO NO T5 would be best, but a toploader would be more correct.

cześć Gutek,
The I6 and 289 V8 3.03 trans have the same input shaft splines and gear ratios (2.99, 1.75, 1, 3.17 rev), however Im not sure about the output shaft and tailshaft housings. Im not sure if one of the patterns on the trans housing will match with the V8 bellhousing - the narrow should. Do you have the bell and trans? Do they look like this?

Do you have the trans and bellhousing? You should post pictures of your Cobra.

The transmission seller checked bolt patern and i think it will fit, I will order it today, the bellhousing is on his way from US so it should be here in 2 weeks.
About photos its not much to show for now.
