Aside from the obvious intake difference, what are the differences between a 4bl and 2bl pre-1975 351w

I got a qoute on a motor a 2 barrel one for $750.00. And we have a four barrel one for $1500.00 for a 1970 351w complete and didn't understand the differences.

I though he just meant a 4 barrel intake for a 4 barrell carb....I guess he was refering to the heads /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

I'm such a doofus.

1969 was the only year for a production 351W 4v. Compression was about 10.7:1. This was achieved with flat top pistons. Valve sizes thru 1977 were 1.84/1.54. Chamber volume approx 60cc until 1978.

Hope this helps.

I know! I know! 2 barrels! Yee haa! Did I win a prize? /forums/images/icons/wink.gif
I don't believe many 4 bbl 351W's were ever made? I believe somone said 69 only. Sounds about right. Other than that, no difference in drivetrain and heads, just the intake and carb. I believe the deck height went from 9.480 on pre-74 W's to a 9.5xx from 74 onward.

Answering your own posts again?? *G*

Same engine, except for intake, carb and pistons...

Interesting note.....the L2456's in the race car W were made for a 9.500" deck height block but my early one, after line honing and surfacing, only measured 9.465"....I had to machine the flat part of the piston (domed units) down about .040 to get the correct deck clearance. Had I not done that, there would've been a permanent doofus mounted on my wall, along with my head...*G*

Things do get interesting on the 335 series engines when someone says they have a 4V manifold for one...is that for the 2V heads or 4V heads?...you know what they say about too many heads...hehehe

Have fun!

Just an operation note on the 351W 4V...if it is indeed a 4 barrel block and not a two barrel block with aftermarket 4 barrel intake...then the compression mat be a bit hard to live with. I have to be very careful with my throttle foot in the summer especially with the 5 speed in overdrive. I think the 9ish to 1 of the two barrel with a 4 barrel intake would make a nicer engine.
