Working on a 64 1/2 and getting ready to shoot the engine compartment. I know on the later Mustangs the firewall sound deadener was an asbestos body Schutts type of product, but the stuff on the firweall of this rust free California car is more of a runny, black asphalt type of stuff. Does anybody know what it is originally? I want to duplicate it correctly, not something like the Body Schuts. thanks.

No, the stuff on this car isn't like the evercoat or body Schuts,, it's gooy and runny but is a tar like product. I started scraping it off but perhaps you can see what it looks like in the photo below:

It is, of course, above the chassis black. It appears to have been applied over the fan area and allowed to run down. Note the run lines I've already scraped.

It's so runny there's a big blob of it on the frame rail where it dripped off the firewall.
