When I dismantled my 64 1/2 for restoration I took pictures of everything. On each side of the interior between the carpet and door scuff plates there was some sort of cloth like the headliner material. Anyone out there able to tell me what to use as everyone I have asked said the carpet goes up the sides. I have all new carpet and it only goes to the edge.

The material between the door scuff plate and the carpet is a vinyl similar to the seat vinyl. Hopefully you saved your original to match it. Although MCA rules say the color should match the carpet, this is incorrect, and this vinyl should match the kick panel. The carpet on a '64.5 coupe and some early fastbacks only goes to the edge and does not go up the sill plate. This edge on the carpet should have a finished edge to it.

For a convertible, the carpet should go up the sill plates as it does on a '65 or '66 car; the only difference is the lack of a vinyl toe pad. Only the '64.5 coupes and some early '65 coupes and fastbacks had the carpet that stopped at the sill plate with the vinyl below the scuff plate. Virginia Mustang has a great understanding of the early '64.5 cars and their unique requirements.
