I recently purchased a truck load of
used Mustang parts and picked up a couple
of drive shafts. One has a tube that is
welded on each end to the U-joint flange.
The other has an outer tube that goes over
the main tube. Is one used on V8 cars while
the other style is used on 6 cyl cars?
Also should the finish be natural and not
painted black?

I know 69/70 C4 equipped cars came with driveshafts that had an outer and an inner tube with rubber in between for insulation

My V8 driveshaft is a steel tube fitted with yokes (flanges) at both ends. The distance between the centerline of the "U" joints is 51 1/8" I have seen the yokes with either inside clips for the u joints or outside clips. The color was black and there was a 1/2" wide white stripe on the end nearest the slip yoke. Have no information to share on 6 cyl parts.
