has anyone tried rebuilding a 65 -66 steering gear box? ive got some play in mine and i was wondering if its all that difficult to accomplish.

From all I've read and heard it isn't worth the effort as compared to replacing the whole gear box. That's what I did, see my article here if you like

I rebuilt my gearbox a couple years ago. Its not too difficult, but the price of the replacement parts are high. It was worth the effort, and cheaper than a new one.

I found that most still have adjustment left, but it also needs the original grease replaced. If you look inside, it usually looks like grey plastic! Dig out as much as you can and stick your grease gun down each side and pump away. We then squirt silicone inside to help. We've only had to replace only 1 box since 1991. ::
