Saw this car at a show today. Guys asking 10k. Bought it in 79, redid interior and had it repainted. Drives it about 2500 year. Want to make sure it is as represented. What can anyone tell me from this number--5RO(maybe0?)8C216518

That's the VIN and it is a 0 (zero). If you had the data from the door tag quite a bit more can be determined but here's what can be told from the VIN:

Year=1965
Assembly Plant=San Jose
Body Style=Convertible
Engine=289 V8 with a 2 Barrel Carb
Consecutive Unit Number=216518

The consecutive unit number just indicates which number car it was off the San Jose line. The number includes all models built there and they started at 100001 for ech plant/year.

Thanks for the info. Does this make it a C code? Unfortunately, the doors have been replaced and the tag along with it.

Yes, it is a C code (5th character in VIN). 10K can be a great price, OK price or really bad price depending on the condition of the car.

If the current owner bought the car in '79 and did the restoration near that time then it's been over 20 years and 50K miles since things were refreshed. Be extra carefiul when looking it over.

Be sure to check the underbody, especially the Frame Rails!!! If they have rust or are soft in any way, expect to spend big time bucks repairing!
It does sound like a great price though.

good luck.
