How do you remove the clip attaching the E brake to the backing plate on a 66 with drum brakes?

I reckon your talking about the retainer where the E-brake cable comes through the backing plate. Take a very small hose style camp and slide it over the fingers of the retainer. Keep the clamp as close to the backing plate as you can. Tighten enough to compress the fingers, then shove the cable assembly out through the hole. You might have to loosen the clamp ever so slightly to achieve this. Works every time.
