While fixing the hinges on my doors, I noticed the remnants of the old GT stripes on the bottom. These stripes were black. Does anyone know if the GTs had black stripes? I have only seen white stripes. Currently, there are no stripes on the car, but it has an obviously bad PO paint job. The build date on my car is 9/10/1965.

I've seen GT stripes for 65-66 cars in white, red and black. Blue is available in aftermarket, but I'm not sure it was an original color choice. Kevin

There were 4 original colors: red, blue, white, and black.

So, did the buyer have the choice of whatever color they wanted, or did certain colors come with certain interiors or paints. My coupe is Candyapple red with standard black interior?

The stripes were keyed to the interior color.

According to "How to Restore Your Mustang," by the editors of Mustang Monthly, in 1966, with Candyapple Red, the GT stripes were black. White was only available with Parchment interior.

Of course, these books have been wrong before...
