Yesterday when I was going to replace my double exhaust to a single system I saw that I had a leak from my C4. The oil had softened the paint/antirust layer and underneath was this red/brown slightly shiny color. As there are quite some paintchips missing I could see the bare metal under it and it looks like this is the first coating that was on the car.

Can anybody tell me if this looks like a coating used on a SJ car scheduled for production October 22. 1965?

If anybody has some history of this car 6R08C122054 76B-Z-68-22K-51-6-6 I would appreciate it. Pics and info can be found at:

I purchased it from Drager’s in Seattle two years ago.

So that's what my undercarraige looked like before
the salt attacked it! That was probably just before
the first snow my car was in! Maybe 1965?

Yep, not that typical though, there are no paint droplets or runs...LOL ;)
I ducked under the car again and found several places with droplets and runs. However it looks like the transmission tunnel got less paint than the rest even if it is several runs here as well. Here is a typical area with droplets found in front of the passenger seat.

If you let the C4 leak a while longer you might end up with a concours undercarridge! ;)

Leaking PS, trans, and engines have saved more undercarriages than I can count ;)
