That is correct. It can be buffed BUT the anodizing needs to be removed. You can wet sand it off and then buff from there.

After buffing it will probably be shinier than when new and it will start to oxidize quicker.

Is there anything that you can do to keep it from oxidizing? My original rockers ('67) are in good shape but need buffing. My repro rockers are pure crap and keep falling off.

I used steel wool 000 on my trim then buffed with mothers poilish turned out great.

+ Anodized aluminum. IMO the repo stuff is junk!
