We recently awoke the '68 after a few months. We heard a metallic clanging/tapping noise from the driver's-side part of the engine in the engine-well when we started it. The noise picks up pace when we use the gas pedal. Today we drained the oil pan, oil filter, and took off the pan. We found small, fine metallic shards in the oil, along with gasoline and cilica sand. How can this be? We use cilica sand for blasting parts, but the '68 hasn't been around or has been sand-blasted. The gasoline in the oil/oil-pan really stumped both I and Coupe. We are trying to correct this problem ASAP. Any help would be great. THANKS!!

Your not going to want to hear this but you probably blew a piston or through a rod. The gas is coming in as part of the air fuel mixture into a cylinder and going into the crank case where it settles out. Do a compression test to confirm this but the symptoms fit.If i find metal in the oil i'de pull the engine.
