I have a 68 convert 4 speed. The shifter audibly vibrates and is quite annoying. If I hold the shifter down while driving it goes away. I purchased the rebuild kit and installed it. Still vibrates. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Did the rebuild kit come with metal bushings? If so, they tend to vibrate. What I have done is used heavy grease to quite it down.

Either that of the roll pin that retains the reverse lockout has gotten loose.
I chased mine through with a slightly larger pin which firmed it up and the rattling ceased.

The kit came with the rubber trunions and I think screws. The reverse lockout was removed by a previous owner. Do I need it? Can I buy it? Is this causing my vibration? It goes into reverse without the lockout just fine.

There should be the two bolts , the aluminum caps and springs, which are wear items, and the rubbers.
