Have a 68 coupe with factory air. Have reconditioned /gone through the in dash unit, was planning on getting the 134a compressor upgrade kit. but now rethinking..should I just replace the whole thing to newer style in dash system, just keep my vents, and controls? The upgrade kit runs about 500.00, but then I am still dealing with 50 year old components..will I end up getting nickel and dime'd enough to end up spending the 1500 for a in dash replacment setup? If anyone has done either / or..please weigh in.

thanks in advance

I was not concerned about originality so I went with a Classic Auto Air. I also had a non-AC car so I was replacing the box anyhow. Very happy with the kit. It is a Florida car and the AC cranks really cold IMO. Directions were complete and easy to understand.

I’ve got ac in a 68 (old air) and in a 65 (CAA) the new stuff is pretty slick. If I could do it a again I’d probably install classic auto air in the 68 too. It blows super cold.
