I am new to the forum. So please don’t kill my typing skills. Or photograph skills.! Lol! I am pleased to share a very special project to me! It is a 68 Mustang coupe that will be converted to a 69 Custom Fastback. I am attempting a tall build for my 15 year old Son! He has kept a toy 69 Fastback since he was 7 years old! So he challenged dear ol Dad to build him his dream car. I come from a long history of Car enthusiast,Body by fisher employee ,& 74 year old Vietnam Veteran! Not to mention Car restoration Father! Well anyhow here are a few pictures of our progress. We aren’t going for a Sema car. But a nice driver for a 16 year old. It will go threw a full body modification to a 69 Fastback. With a tasteful modern style drivetrain. Thanks for reading my post! Hope it’s something people will try in the future! I highly recommend any metal savvy fabricator to give it a try! Here is our 68 Coupe to 69 Fastback Conversion Build!

Most wouldn’t believe but the proportions are mostly the same! The 69 Mustang quarter panel is slightly shorter in the front. The door is concave instead of convex. So instead of having flat dooors on a 69 Fastback. We highlighted the style lines of the 68. Fabricated the quarter panel and A,B,C pillars. With having a shorter door because of the style lines. We then widen the car. So the flow of the car is awesome! Not bulky but widened tastefully!

did you match the window openings to the '68 glass then I assume?
That's a quick update? Going from primered body work and major body mods to fully painted? I really need to make more quick updates then, I am working at a snail's pace . How did the tail light panel end up?

Well if you check the time period between post. It’s been a few weeks. So I haven’t had a lot of time to update with progress. But thanks To All the hard work. I’d like to share our progress. I’ll have it assembled soon. I’ll post pics of the rear panel also. Can’t wait to see it outside. Before it’s noticed also. We are fabricating a speaker box to fit the speaker hat rack. Thanks to all that follow this build.

Oh yeah just picked up another Mustang project! It’s a 69 Coupe. Thinking of building another ONE OFF? What do you good people think?

I can’t assist on too many things Ford wise due to spending a lengthy portion of my bloody knuckle life on GM products. But I feel I may be able to assist with the above.
-Just a humble FYI: The piston and rods go on the other side of the hood…. 😜

Your first transformation is looking great! Keep us apprised with this Coupe

what are some of the most Rare 1969 Mustangs? I’d like to make a tribute. I’ve found a Shelby Grande Coupe? I’m really just looking for suggestions? Possibly bounce ideas with some people.
I’ve found a Shelby Grande Coupe?
You mean one of these?

Shelby de Mexico. Not a Grande. Custom sails panels and built under license in Mexico.

Sorry if you were offended. People often put out incorrect information and others repeat it as fact. I have owned vintage Mustang since 1985 and have been totally reconstructing my current one for the last 13 years. But that doesn't make me an expert. I have posted things in here that weren't correct and others straightened out my bad info, which is what they should do.

In your original post you wrote you "found a Shelby Grande Coupe". No such animal was ever built by Ford or Shelby that I've ever seen or heard of in my 40+ years of reading and studying about Mustangs and Shelby cars. The closest to that ever built were the Shelby de Mexico Mustangs. Due to the vinyl roof and being built out of a coupe body, they are often mistaken as Shelbyized Mustang Grandes. It sounded as if you were describing one of those and I posted a picture of one (I do not own one) to inquire if that was what you were referring to.

Lastly, I have no idea what you mean when you said "1st suggestion taken into consideration." I never made any suggestions in my previous post.

Looking for input is what I asked for? Not really trying to recreate Ford History. No offense taken. I’m building cars that people haven’t saw before. I stated that I’m not aware of the correct name. At any rate I’m looking for suggestions to build a custom 69 Mustang. No more no less! I’m not interested in restoring a car already created. I was referencing a car I saw online? Asking for information. The suggestion was to turn the 69 into a “Shelby De Mexico”. Which I miss spoken on the proper name of the car. I’m 40 years old! These cars were built before I was born! So I create what I see as Art. If you don’t like it. No harm no foul. I say again thank you for sharing your awesome Shelby De Mexico. For the guys whith more Craftsmanship than Funding? I build cars to show anything is possible.
