Hi all,
I am going to order new rear brakes for my FB and I've been looking at Canadian Mustangs kit and they say to specify for the rear shoes whether or not you have 1 3/4" or 2" - how do I know what I have!?
Also, the rear drums, they want to know whether or not they are 10" X 1.75" or 9" X 1.5"? Do I have to measure what was on the car or is this standard based on what type of car is is - engine, trans etc?

tia,
Mike

The standard V8 rear shoe size is 10" by 1 3/4" ( the 9" size is for 6cyl), the CJ cars and Shelbys got wider rear shoes, they are the 2" or wider I believe.390 cars just got a larger piston diameter rear wheel cylinder I believe, not the larger shoes, which doesn't mean someone hasn't upgraded them.To measure, just use a tape or rule, you can measure the 10" by measuring across inside edge of drum-turned surface to turned surface across center, the 1 3/4" is simple measured on the shoe across it, the width/thickness of it.Why don't you just go to the local Autoparts and get them? They are usually a stock item even today as many Fords used them ( I even think my Jeep Cherokee uses the same shoes-just replaced them last week and they were totally a Ford style set up and were 10 by 1 3/4"-I am going to look into this).I get my brake parts at the Advance Auto store nearby, they have always had the items in stock, and they even sell the complete self adjuster kits for $10 or less which include the adjuster unit, cable, and the two pivot pieces.

Thanks guys - never thought of that. My friend is the mgr of a local autostore and he said he can get everything - I just need to let him know what sizes - I'll have John who is working in my car measure tonight just to make sure.

thanks
