You're dealing with casting numbers. The 302 with four steeps is RF-C70R-7A040-A. The C4ZR-A is not listed, although a -B is indicated for three-speed versions.

What would be the correct toploader tailhousing for a 68 302 Jcode, C70R-7A040-A or C4ZR-7A040-A. I think both could fit depending on the shifter plate. The C4ZR has the shifter mounting at the rear. The C7OR has the shifter mounting more to the front and uses a shifter mounting plate. Thanks Korbi

The C4ZR is the correct tail for all small block Mustang toploaders from 1966 thru 1973 including Boss 302 and Boss 351.
