I have a 68 big block Shelby. I decided to replace the voltage regulator - it had an Autolite (Part C8AF.....) on it. I got a replacement from Mustangs Unlimited but the part number (C8TF....) is different. Is there any difference?

My old regulator would show a charge for about 5 min then settle to almost no charge that would indicate to me that it had topped off the battery. The new (C8TF) regulator didn't do that. It always was showing max. or almost max. charging. Even at idle my charging amps were running very high. I ran it at night and I had the hi-beams on, after about 20 minutes the headlights went out -??? They came back on after I stopped the car for a few min. I'm thinking that this isn't the proper regulator. I pulled it off and put the old one back in....

Any thoughts on what might of happened?

Don't know about the part numbers, but the repo (AMK) regulators look really nice but have cheesy internals.
