Does anyone know where I can get the threaded inserts that are used to mount the outside mirrors on 69/70 mustangs without having to order them ? They kind of look like poprivets with the centers tapped out.

hmmmmm come to think of it i've never seen them anywhere for sale......mine were gone also.... i cut me a peice of thick aluminum about 2" by 1 1/2" drilled a few holes in it,held it inside the door and scewed the factory screws in, while holding the mirror in place, not easy but it worked well, mirrors are good and tight, you can't see any of my rigging (on that part of the car anyways) lol...... an extra pair of hands would have made it a simple job....... good luck in your search.... if you can't find them maybe this info may help.... my holes for the inserts was way too big so i couldn't have used the inserts anyways.... jace

Auto Krafters ( http://www.autokrafters.com/ ) sells an exterior mirror mount repair kit (part # 674406) for $7.95 that has the threaded inserts and screws you need - I used the kit on my '71 Ranchero to mount the sport mirrors, so I think it will also work on your '69 - '70 Mustang - you might give them a call and see if it will work. phone # 800-228-7346
I happened to have the invoice that had the part #, but I don't think the mirror gasket came with it, and I believe the kit had four inserts and screws for both sides (can't remember for sure, I could have ordered two sets). The part is listed for '65 - '71 Ford.
I hope this helps.

Actually I did see them in their catalog. I missed them on my last order. I was hoping to hear that they were available locally.
Thanks for the reply though

They carry the AMK kits. I'll probably order from NPD or AMK if I can't find them locally.
thanks
Chris
