Was talking to a friend of mine last night and he's got a '69 Mustang and the VIN is 9R05Hxxxxxx. He can't figure out why his '69 has an 05 as the third and fourth digits instead of the 02. 05 wasn't used untill the 1970 model year. Would this be a factory mistake or possibly a late year changover? Any ideas on this one? :)

I think it is a factory mistake. Does the dash vin tag and door tag both match this way? How about the title?

Me thinks he has a 1970 Door on a 1969 car or vice versa

Where are you getting that VIN from? The dash plate, door tag, or fender aprons? Check to see what all of them say.
