The legal VIN is the dash plate so as long as your car doesn't have some other VIN on it you are probably ok.

It's a 69 S code Mach 1. How big of a deal is it if the vin plate on the dash is in place but not on the inner fender aprons? Has clear title, vin plate on dash and a buck tag.
You don't report where the car was built as many were stamped on the shock towers not the fender aprons in 69

how hard is it to replace the dash vin. Is it riveted in place?? just want to make sure i'm not buying a car that has been screwed with.
Easy to swap but you will have to check (if concerned) the rivets as the factory rivets are different from the standard pop-rivets (though you can fins the right ones)

As with any purchase it comes down to investigation
