I'm refurbishing the console on my 70 Sportsroof (got inspired by a recent MM article), and I was wondering.... on the front face of the "box" part of the console there are two holes that look like a place to mount something. Anyone give me a lead as to what? they look a little too well placed to be something left from a PO.

Are you talking about the flat part between the shifter opening and the upraised, lidded compartment? If so, the two holes are for mounting a plastic rectangular piece about 3 inches by 10 inches. It is dished with chromed edges and a woodgrain applique center. They are difficult to come by in good condition. You might have to buy a junker piece and get it re-chromed then put on new applique. good luck.

sure it's fun (most of the time), but it's only a car.

I love my digital camera. The thing that makes me think these are supposed to be here are I've seen some pictures of consoles on ebay and it looks like there is something chrome mounted here (bad angle so I couldn't tell what it was).

ok, I recall two screws mounting into a metal strap passing across the console base and used to mount the center insert, but I'll have to check on the two tinnerman nuts shown in your pic. Don't recall. If you send me an email I'll get back to you.
