i know the stripes from the factory, were a flat finish. my painter said we can use flat paint, but it would make it hard to wax the car. or we can put the stripes under the clearcoat. has anybody done it one way or the other?

Put your stripes flat black and polish the hood paint before you make a stripes and no wax required after..

My body man flatened regular paint and put it on in a manner that had a semi sandy texture. The hood looks great but not quite as flat as factory, most people don't seem to notice. If I hit it with wax it comes right back off no problem. He didn't use any clear coat. Another thing that I did was to make the center stripe around a half inch wider in the back it makes the stripe look the same width and the gap and other stripe remains as they should be gap wise and width wise. If you would measure the lemans stripes on a 65 shelby they vary in width for the same effect.
