I'm in the process of restoring my steering column. I got this car as a basket case. I never pulled the column out of my previous 70, so I'm not sure if there's something wrong with my current one. My question is this, with the entire column assembly removed from the car, I can move the rag joint flange end of the inner shaft side to side in the outer tube about 1/2". There is a plastic bushing in the outer tube on that end, but it's just a few thousands thick and shows no signs of wear. Is this normal? Or am I missing a bushing?
