While in Northern Michigan this past weekend, we spotted a Mustang for sale on the side of the road and we turned around to take a look.

It was a 71 convertible with a 302. Painted yellow.

The car was in possibly fair condition (might of had some previous restoration), and needed some cleanup, etc. The back window was out.

I could not get a look at the underside since it was parked in the tall grass.

The body looked ok and there was no "visible" rust.

I later checked the production numbers and ther were just over 6000 of the 71 convertibles made.

So, I was just curious if it was worth the $5900 OBO they were asking for it.

Its a crap shoot as you know. If it needs total restoration then no the price isn't good. My guess is it should be a $3k car but thats without looking at it. If it needs a back window the top would not be much better. Check the floor pans and trunk area for rust. Look in all the normal places like the front aprons and the frame rails...

Like Ray says, it depends on how much work it needs. These cars, in really nice condition, don't seem to bring much more than $10,000 to $12,000 on Ehay or Traderonline. If you like the car, and can buy it and restore it for less than that, go for it.
