I restored the rear tail light asemblies on my son's '72 and am ready install them. The seals where NOS so I know they are the proper size. The completed units though are larger than the tail panel opening. It's the ole get out the vasoline & push. I get one side of the lite assembly in and the other pops outs.

Any trick or two would be greatly appreciated.

I guess I missed something. It has been about 4 years since I sold my last '73 Mach 1. Don't the tailights set on the inside of the rear panel???? I thought they were like my '70. The tailight goes on the inside, with the gasket against the tailight panel, and the trim goes on the outside.....Old age does tricks on the memory.....

fordnut is correct. The seals should seat on the inside face of the taillight panel.

Just got back into town. Thanks for the heads up. I took the mach apart over a year ago in preparation of a complete paint redo. I "remembered" the lite assembly mounted in the panel.
