Allright, here's the story...I have a 1970 fastback with a 250/3-speed. Also an 8 inch rear. I am planning on putting a 390 with a c6 in her. I was planning on putting a 9 inch in too, but i was just told that if I had my 8 inch rebuilt, I would be ok. The engine I found has 400 horse/460ft/lbs. Can an 8 inch really handle that much power? Thanks, Steve

P.S. How reliable is welding the spider gears for posi?

an 8" rear end built right, and stuffed with the right parts can easily handle the power of a 390.

and I would personally recommend against welding the spider gears to create a posi effect.
