HI all in mustang land i have a 1989 dodge ram 50 truck which is my transportation to work and back the carb is a two barrel one barrel is primary and second is secondary the secondary barrel butterfly wont open so hard accelleration is out the secondary is mechanical with spring loaded the spring is in place I can open by hand but it is hard to do If any of you have worked on one of these before advise would be appriciated TIA

I don't know specificly what the problem with your carb is but years back I worked on several of these. As I remember that carb is on the list as one of the worse POS carbs in history, (along with the Honda 3 bbl). Even when new they never worked right. They have the "wax plug" opperated choke that malfunctions constantly, and like yours the secondary is hit or miss. A replacement carb is still trash and 10 years ago my cost on them was about $450.

I replaced them with the Webber progressive 2bbl's and my cost with the carb, the installation kit and labor ran about $325, and they run a BUNCH better.

If you are having trouble with yours that's the route I would go. I wouldn't even touch the one you have except to take it off and throw it as far as possible............... *G*.

I have one also. Secondary doesn't seem to open and idle is high. I'd toss it too but Ca. has something called EPA and ya gotta keep it and it has to pass. I understand there is a place in Palmdale that still works on them. If ya find some one else let me know.
