Yes. With the 5.5, I get a little tire rub inside the wheel well on big bumps - passenger side only due to the design of the cars, but not on the fender lip. My car is also lowered a bit. The 6 should fit without any issues. Hope this helps.
I have 6.75" backspace on 18 x9.5 on my 67. It has a rear disc brake kit which required and 1/2" of backspace so if your running drums in back 6" would probably be just right.
Looking into piecing together a basic underdash A/C system for my 68 coupe using a Mark IV type evaporator. Vintage Air has a nice reproduction unit that Summit has for $300. There are also many cheaper underdash evaporators on the market.
